My name is Angelica, I’m 21 years old and my clean date is March 17, 2012. I actively used for five and a half years and lost all hope in life and myself. I remember feeling like no one would ever succeed in helping me so I didn’t bother to ask. Growing up I struggled with more than one addiction and felt suicidal because of the poor decisions I’ve made in my life and people I’ve hurt. The guilt, shame, and impulsive behavior became a dangerous cycle and seemed to be never ending.

I decided to move to Delray Beach, Florida to change my life and figure out who I really was. I no longer wanted to just exist in life, I wanted to live life! I attended in-patient treatment for chemical dependency and intensive outpatient treatment. The treatment process helped me more than I believed possible. I’m no longer living in the mindset I was in when I lived in my addiction. By receiving help I have a new perspective about myself, other people and life. Today I’m truly living and want to help anyone who reaches their hand out. I want to help others achieve a life they’re proud of.

Working at Delray Beach Intensive Outpatient Program is an amazing experience. I see clients find out who they are and gain a new positive perspective on their lives. I am reminded of the gift of recovery as I watch clients become happy living a life without alcohol and drugs. We understand what you have been through, what you’re going through, and how to get through it. If you’re feeling like you can’t do this, you’re wrong. I felt that way before too and now I know I can do anything as long as I work for it. The past is the past, I want to help people in the present so they too have a future.

Thank you for reading Angelica’s addiction recovery success story.
